Dr. Kate Tierney is an assistant professor in the Department of Sociology at Western Michigan University. Her research interests are in health, fertility, family, and social demography. Using quantitative and qualitative methodologies, Tierney's research is structured around the goal of uncovering the social mechanisms and structural causes of inequalities in fertility in order to support the development of policies and interventions to improve equity and wellbeing. Tierney's current projects focus on inequalities in access, use, and outcomes of reproductive health technologies. Her work has been published in refereed journals including Fertility and Sterility, Population Research and Policy Review, and Social Science & Medicine.
