Metrologist at Sturgis Molded Products and Math Adjunct Faculty at Ivy Tech Community College

My job involves working with measuring plastics made from injection molds. The job involves a lot of geometry and statistics. On a typical day I am usually gathering data and running analysis on it. Data is collected through using the latest measurement technology. After collecting data and analyzing it I bring the information I have learned to the engineers and help them decide which course of action to take.

What is the most rewarding and the most challenging part of your job?

The most rewarding part of my job is when I can determine the root cause of problems that arise in injection molding. This is also the most challenging part of my job as the root cause isn't always clear.

Which of your skills had the biggest impact on your success?

My ability to think analytically is why I think I have been so successful as a metrologist.

What advice do you have for students looking for their career after college?

Go to as many job fairs as you can and try to get internships even if you are about to graduate - it's not too late.  My only regret is I wish I had known this sooner.
