Sichel Lecture Series: Temporary Protections, Permanent Problems

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security can designate nationals from a given country as eligible for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) when certain conditions apply -- such as an on-going civil war or a natural disaster in their country of origin.  These individuals can gain the right to temporarily remain in the U.S. and obtain employment authorization.  Dr. Zavodny will discuss this and related programs and assess their longer-run implications.
