Semiconductors curriculum

You'll study four required areas: electronics, printed circuit assemblies (PCAs), semiconductor fundamentals and digital electronics. Then, choose an elective course that fits your area of interest.

Certificate in Semiconductors admissions requirements

To enroll in the semiconductor certificate program, you’ll need to apply to WMU.

  • Be enrolled in or already have a bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer engineering.
  • Students from related disciplines, industry technicians, community college students, and high school students or graduates, with suitable professional experience may be considered subject to approval by the advising committee.

To enroll, most applicants need to complete a non degree/certificate/second major or minor application.

As a semiconductor technician, you will work with engineers to improve manufacturing processes and ensure the quality of semiconductor products. You may operate specialized equipment used to produce wafers and microchips, as well as perform testing, measurements and quality control checks throughout the manufacturing process. Much of this work takes place in a cleanroom environment, similar to the Clean Lab in WMU's Floyd Hall, and requires strong attention to detail and the ability to follow precise procedures. 

While earning your Certificate in Semiconductors, you will develop these skills and gain the foundational knowledge in electronics, manufacturing processes, and troubleshooting needed to succeed in this high-demand field.
