Environment and sustainability Advising
Given the interdisciplinary nature of the programs in the environment and sustainability at Western Michigan University, it is very important that you meet regularly with all your advisors.
The College of Arts and Sciences advising staff is taking over advising for all of our majors (environmental and sustainability studies; freshwater science and sustainability; sustainable brewing) and minors (environmental and sustainability studies), and they are now the prime point of contact for you for any advising needs you may have. The college advising office is located in 2318 Friedmann Hall.
You can select your major to be taken directly to an appointment schedule specific to your major. You may also sign up for a 30-minute appointment when necessary, and appointments are possible each week during the entire year.
The Institute of the Environment and Sustainability is very invested in your success, and we encourage you to make the most of the professional advising help available to you through the advising office. Please also note that you should never hesitate to reach out to Dr. Vonhof or other IES faculty if you have questions about careers in your chosen field, career preparation advice, advice on how to successfully transition to university or how best to study for your courses, how to become engaged in local environmental initiatives or volunteer opportunities, or want to know more about any of the fields we research and teach.
We look forward to engaging with you in our courses this coming year, and we hope to see you at some or all of the many events we sponsor and organize. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions.
Sustainable brewing advising
As a student in the sustainable brewing program at Western Michigan University, you must meet regularly with an advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences to ensure completion of all program and graduation requirements.
It is each student's responsibility to schedule appointments in a timely manner to meet graduation deadlines in the academic calendar. Find course offerings for a specific term and course descriptions to assist in successfully completing the program.
