Join us for the Diamond Jubilee Weekend as we honor six decades of the WMU Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences. From September 26 to 28, alumni, faculty, students, and friends will come together for a weekend packed with reconnection, reflection, and celebration. It’s the perfect chance to raise a glass, revisit your WMU roots, and see what’s new across campus and beyond.

Friday, September 26
Department Open House (11:00 am - 3:00 pm Rood Hall) – Stroll down memory lane with a guided tour of the department and the surrounding campus. Learn more about our labs and student research. Our students are eager to share their stories, enjoy some light snacks, and learn from our alumni how our department has grown and evolved over the years. A great chance to bridge generations and keep the Bronco community strong. (Free event, no registration needed)
Cocktail Hour and Dinner (5:00 pm - 9:00 pm Fetzer Center) – Celebrate sixty years of geology and environmental science dedication and discovery. Enjoy a relaxed cocktail hour, followed by a catered dinner where you can reconnect with colleagues, share insights, and reflect on the progress and future of our field. (Registration closed for this event)
Saturday, September 27
Golf Outing – Join us at Prairies Golf Club Saturday morning with a scramble format tournament open to all skill levels. Compete for prizes and the winning team will claim a trophy to be enshrined in Rood Hall as a permanent marker of your Bronco victory. (Registration is still available for this event - email @email to sign up!)
Wine on the Rocks: Field Trip Tasting Tour – Hop on a charter bus for a tour that pairs geology with local flavor. Visit three wineries and taste Southwest Michigan’s unique terroir while learning the geological stories beneath the vines. This field trip will truly be a rock-solid experience! (Registration closed for this event)
CommUniverCity Home Football Game – Show your Bronco pride and cheer on the team with fellow alumni. Before the game, join us for a pre-game for drinks and food, excellent company, and plenty of Bronco spirit—this game day will be truly unforgettable. (Football tickets still available)
Sunday, September 28
Coffee and Donuts (9:30 am - 11:30 am MGRRE) – Begin your morning with a relaxed gathering at the Michigan Geological Repository for Research and Education. Hosted by the Michigan Geological Survey, this casual meet-up offers a great opportunity to enjoy fresh coffee and donuts while catching up with fellow alumni and colleagues. Take some time to reconnect, share stories, and build new connections before the day’s final event. (Free event, no registration needed)
