Department 60th Diamond Anniversary Celebration

Join us for the Diamond Jubilee Weekend as we honor six decades of the WMU Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences. From September 26 to 28, alumni, faculty, students, and friends will come together for a weekend packed with reconnection, reflection, and celebration. It’s the perfect chance to raise a glass, revisit your WMU roots, and see what’s new across campus and beyond.

Here’s what we have planned:

Friday, September 26

Campus Tour and Snacks with Students – Take a walk back through time and terrain as you explore familiar and new corners of campus. Meet current students eager to share their stories, enjoy some light snacks, and see how our department has grown and evolved over the years. A great chance to bridge generations and keep the Bronco community strong. (Free)

Cocktail Hour and Dinner at the Fetzer Center – Celebrate sixty years of geology and environmental science dedication and discovery. Enjoy a relaxed cocktail hour, followed by a catered dinner where you can reconnect with colleagues, share insights, and reflect on the progress and future of our field. (Ticketed)

Saturday, September 27

Golf Outing – Join us at Prairies Golf Club Saturday morninig with a scramble format tournament open to all skill levels. Compete for prizes and the winning team will claim a trophy to be enshrined in Rood Hall as a permanent marker of your Bronco victory. (Ticketed)

Wine on the Rocks: Field Trip Tasting Tour – Hop on a charter bus for a tour that pairs geology with local flavor. Visit three wineries and taste Southwest Michigan’s unique terroir while learning the geological stories beneath the vines. This field trip will truly be a rock-solid experience! (Ticketed)

CommUniverCity Home Football Game – Show your Bronco pride and cheer on the team with fellow alumni. Before the game, join us for a pre-game for drinks and food, excellent company, and plenty of Bronco spirit—this game day will be truly unforgettable. (Ticketed)

Sunday, September 28

Coffee and Donuts – Begin your morning with a relaxed gathering at the Michigan Geological Repository for Research and Education. Hosted by the Michigan Geological Survey, this casual meet-up offers a great opportunity to enjoy fresh coffee and donuts while catching up with fellow alumni and colleagues.
