Title: Peer Health Educator, Health Promotion and Education 

Reports to: Assistant Directors, Health Promotion and Education

Starting Pay: $15.00 per hour

Work Schedule: 7-10 hours per week during fall and spring semesters; work schedule is flexible to meet job and academic requirements; occasional evening/weekend work expected. If funding allows, summer hours may be available.  

General Description of Duties:  

Peer Health Educators (PHEs) focus on promoting healthy behaviors, increasing awareness of important wellness topics, and connecting students with relevant resources. Through workshops, presentations, and programming spaces, PHEs play a vital role in fostering a healthy and supportive campus environment. Program topics include, but are not limited to sexual health, mental wellness, sexual violence prevention, substance use risk reduction, and bystander intervention. All PHEs receive national certification training. If hired, students may also be eligible to fulfill internship/practicum requirements in their degree program. 
 

Primary Duties:  

  • Plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based health events, programs, and presentations on the topics listed above. 
  • Staff student resource and support spaces. 
  • Attend weekly team meetings for professional development and training. 
  • Attend supervision meetings with Assistant Director. 
  • Establish relationships and collaborate with student organizations, university departments, and local agencies to achieve mutual goals and promote utilization of programs and services. 
  • Promote and represent Health Promotion and Education at presentations, campus events and committees to provide a well-being lens. 
  • Incorporate cultural diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice concepts into all work. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 
     

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Currently enrolled WMU student with the ability to commit for a minimum of one year.
