Learn about the various agreement types that support our international collaborations.
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
An informal, non-binding agreement that outlines areas of collaboration and mutual interest between institutions.
Student Exchange
An agreement for students to study at each other’s institutions, typically for a semester or year.
American University Experience
A short-term option for international students to enroll at Western Michigan University for one to two academic semesters. Students from international partner institutions receive a discounted program rate.
Institutional Transfer Articulation Agreement
Aligns course credits between institutions to support seamless student transfer.
Program Articulation Agreements
Structured pathways for specific academic programs, such as:
- 2+2, 3+1 – Undergraduates complete part of their degree at each institution.
- 1+1 Master’s – Students complete portions of their graduate studies at both institutions.
- 3+2 Cooperative Accelerated Master’s Program (CAMP) – Combines undergraduate and graduate studies for an accelerated path to a master’s degree.
- Dual or Joint Degrees – Students earn degrees from both institutions upon completion.
Faculty Exchange
Allows faculty members to teach or conduct research at partner institutions.
