Some campus offices on reduced hours for the holidays

Holiday recess begins with the end of fall semester, and some campus services will cease or have reduced hours starting Friday, Dec. 15, through the start of spring semester.

Office closings apply to non-represented University employees. Many represented employees have contractually scheduled regular work days between Thursday, Dec. 21, and Tuesday, Jan. 2, since the University continues to provide services during holiday recess. Represented employees should direct questions to their management.

Public events on campus during holiday recess include Bronco women's and men's basketball games at 2 and 4:30 p.m., respectively, Saturday, Dec. 30, at University Arena. Visit the events calendar for up-to-date listings.

  • Spring semester begins at 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8.

Holiday recess hours for WMU offices

Listed below are hours for selected University offices and services. Faculty, students and the public are encouraged to call ahead to make sure that a particular office on campus is open. For emergencies only, contact WMU Public Safety at (269) 387-5555.

Many offices, including AdmissionsBronco Expressfinancial aidFirst-Year Experience programs, close at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, and reopen Tuesday, Jan. 2.

All campus academic advising offices close at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, and reopen Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Bernhard Center and Bronco Mall hours are available on the Bernhard Center website. All facilities and mall stores are on reduced hours Friday, Dec. 15, through Sunday, Jan. 7. The entire building is closed Sunday, Dec. 17, and Friday, Dec. 22, through Monday, Jan. 1. All facilities and stores resume normal hours Monday, Jan. 8.

Miller Auditorium will be open during the holiday recess from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, through Saturday, Dec. 30; and closed Monday, Jan. 1. Regular business hours will resume Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Sindecuse Health Center, including the pharmacy, is closed Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 16-17; open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 18-20; open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 21; and closed Dec. 22 through Jan. 1. The pharmacy drive-up window is open for prescription pick-up until 5:30 p.m. on days the health center is open. New or refill prescription requests using a 2017 insurance benefit plan should be submitted by 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, for pickup no later than 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21. Prescriptions will not be processed during holiday recess. Any prescription requests submitted after 5:30 p.m. Dec. 21 will be processed in accordance with 2018 insurance benefit rules when the pharmacy reopens Jan. 2. The health center resumes normal hours at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2. Medical emergencies should be referred to local hospitals or other health care providers.

Student Recreation Center hours are available on the center's website. It is open reduced hours 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 13-14; 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 15; closed Dec. 16-17; open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 18-21; closed Dec. 22 through Jan. 1; open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 2-5; open noon to 7 p.m. Jan. 6-7; and resumes normal hours at 6 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8.

Unified Clinics closes at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, and reopens Tuesday, Jan. 2. For more information, call (269) 387-7000.

Waldo Library is open reduced hours 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 15; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 16; closed Dec. 17; open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 18-21; closed Dec. 22 through Jan. 1; open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 2-5; closed Jan. 6-7; and resumes normal hours at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8. Campus computing

  • The Help Desk will close at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15; open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 18-21; be closed Dec. 22 through Jan. 1; open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 2-5; and resume normal hours Sunday, Jan. 7.
  • The Mobile Help Desk is closed and will resume normal hours Sunday, Jan. 7.
  • Bernhard Computing Center in the Bronco Mall closes at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, and reopens at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 7.
  • University Computing Center lab will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15; open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 18-21; be closed Dec. 22 through Jan. 1; open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 2-5; and resume normal hours Sunday, Jan. 7.

Help reduce energy costs

To reduce energy costs during holiday recess, temperature settings in most campus buildings will be reduced to no lower than 55 degrees. Vacant residence halls and classrooms will be set back beginning Dec. 15. Office spaces will be set back starting Dec. 22. All areas except classrooms will be back to the University set point by Jan. 2. Classrooms will return to the University set point by Monday, Jan. 8.

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to unplug items such as mini fridges, coffee makers, printers and copy machines.

Also to reduce costs, parking lots outside unoccupied buildings and student commuter lots will not be plowed during the holiday recess. All main campus roads and parking areas for on-campus events will continue to be cleared as usual.
