Spring 2023 career fairs connect Western students with hundreds of employers

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Hundreds of employers will vie for candidates to fill full- and part-time jobs as well as internships and co-op positions during spring career fairs beginning Tuesday, Feb. 7. The Western Michigan University-organized events are free and open to the public, although they are tailored to college students and recent college graduates.

Employers have posted jobs to the online career site Handshake. WMU's Career and Student Employment Services and the Zhang Career Center offer advising and resources to help students prepare for interviews and refine their resume. Ahead of the spring career fairs, special sessions have been created to help students prepare:

Career and Student Employment Services Drop-in Job Fair Preparation Sessions, Bernhard Center main floor lobby:

  • Jan. 31: 12:30-4 p.m.

  • Feb. 1: 12:30-4 p.m.

  • Feb. 2: 12:30-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m.

  • Feb. 6: 12:30-4 p.m.

College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Drop-in Cafe Critique Job Fair Preparation Sessions, Main floor lobby of Floyd Hall:

  • Jan. 31 to Feb. 6: noon to 3 p.m. 

The biggest spring event is the annual spring Career Fair in February, which focuses on those seeking employment in such areas as aviation, business, health care, integrated supply chain management, IT and liberal arts.

Registration is not required for students or other job seekers, but it is recommended participants register on Handshake.

Government and Nonprofit Job Fair

The event on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Bernhard Center Ballroom serves WMU students studying in all academic programs and majors who have a desire to work at nonprofit organizations or government agencies or entities. Spring Engineering Expo

The expo on Wednesday, Feb. 8, is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Bernhard Center Ballroom and attracts candidates from the 14 Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)-accredited engineering and applied sciences concentrations in the hard sciences, business information systems, computer science, data science, product design, integrated supply chain management and all engineering programs. The largest spring event on Thursday, Feb. 9, is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Bernhard Center Ballroom and attracts candidates from aviation, business, health care, integrated supply chain management, IT and liberal arts.
