Bio:
Dr. Vincent Lyon-Callo is a professor in the Department of Sociology at Western Michigan University who works primarily on issues of poverty and class processes within the United States.
 
Lyon-Callo's current research analyzes how to make sense of practices and policies whereby community members respond to social and economic restructurings in Michigan.
 
His first book, Inequality, Poverty and Neoliberal Governance: Activist Ethnography in the Homeless Sheltering Industry, explores how routine and well-meaning helping practices contribute to sustaining homelessness. He also co-authored, the edited volume Pandemic and the Crisis of Capitalism: A Rethinking Marxism Dossier.
 
He was a co-editor and long term member of the editorial board of the journal Rethinking Marxism, served as a member of the Okemos, Michigan Board of Education for ten years, and has co-organized several conferences.
