Students are considered for admission as transfer students when they have completed college coursework during a fall or spring semester after graduating from high school. Early/middle college or dual-enrolled students are considered freshmen. Applicants should have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale) for consideration.
Factors of consideration for applicants include:
- Cumulative college GPA (from all institutions attended)
- Trend of recent semester grades
- Number of college-level courses completed

In light of the uncertainty surrounding the timeline of and access to the ACT or SAT, Western Michigan University has adopted a test-optional policy for students applying for 2021 entry terms. However, if you graduated less than two years before you plan to enroll at WMU, you can strengthen your application by submitting ACT or SAT scores.
Transcripts are considered official when they are submitted by the college/university/high school or when they are issued within 90 days and hand-delivered in a sealed envelope by the student.
when to apply
*While the dates above are deadlines, we recommend that you submit your application and required documents 6-8 months before you intend to transfer to WMU. Applicants are reviewed on a rolling basis, and students will be notified of decisions approximately two weeks after completing their application checklist. Admitted students must make an appointment to meet with an academic advisor prior to being able to register for classes. Our transfer students are given priority for registration dates based on the number of transfer credit hours completed.
