Any current or former military WMU student who has earned a Campaign Medal or Oversees Ribbon is eligible to apply for credit for courses based on where they were stationed.
Apply for credit for one of the following courses. Students may be awarded credit for more than one course, up to six (6) credits, if they meet the qualifications.
- GEOG 3830 – Geography of Europe (3 credits)
- GEOG 3860 – Geography of Africa*! (3 credits)
- GEOG 3880 – Geography of Latin America*! (3 credits)
- GEOG 3890 – South and Southeast Asia (3 credits)
- GEOG 3990 – China, Japan, and Korea: Lands and Culture* (3 credits)
* also counts as WMU Essential Studies Level 3 – Connections: Global Perspectives
! also counts as WMU Essential Studies – Planetary Sustainability)
To Apply:
- Complete the application form
- Write a 2-3 page paper, single spaced addressing the following items:
- How long you were in-country.
- The training you received in relation to this deployment.
- The cultural experiences you had while in-country.
- How you see the future of the country politically, socially, economically, and environmentally, based on past and current practices.
- Email the application form, your paper, and you DD-214 or other official military orders showing your deployment to that region/country (sensitive information redacted) to egs-info@wmich.edu
The current undergraduate advisor will email the results of this assessment within 30 calendar days of receipt of your submission.
