Surgery

Transitioning can be a long and stressful process but the following resources may be able to help with transitioning. The Office of LBGT Student Services does not endorse any specific practice, this is only to share information of what is in the accessible area. The Office of LBGT Student Services encourages those who are considering transitioning to do their own research and ask questions to find the best options that work for them.

Medical providers may abide by WPATH where a letter (or more) from a licensed therapist may be required before proceeding with surgical procedures. Surgical procedures can carry risks depending on age, genetics, and pre-existing conditions. The following providers are available within the state of Michigan.

  • Dr. Amie Hop (Spectrum Health Comprehensive Breast Clinic) - specializes in chest masculinization (top surgery) and works with a variety of health insurance providers. 
  • Dr. Kenneth Wolf - Dr. Wolf is a plastic surgeon who specializes in trans male chest reconstruction.
    • Insurance and a letter from a therapist are not required (if over the age of 18).
    • Patients can continue taking their testosterone up to the day of procedure.
    • A down payment of half of the total costs of procedure is due up front, financing is available. 
  • Transgender Michigan - Provides a list of surgeons within the state of Michigan for a variety of surgical procedures.
  • University of Michigan Comprehensive Gender Services Program (CGSP) - Therapist letters are required for all medical procedures.

The following providers are available in neighboring states outside of Michigan.
