Spring recess hours announced

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Some campus services at Western Michigan University will be on reduced hours during spring semester recess, which begins Monday, March 4, and continues through Friday, March 8. There are no classes during the recess, but most WMU offices are open regular hours. In addition, there are no classes Friday, March 1, for Spirit Day.

Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday, March 10. Classes resume beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, March 11.

Listed below are spring recess hours for select University offices and services. Faculty and staff, students and the public are encouraged to call ahead to make sure that a particular office is open before driving to campus.

For emergencies only, contact WMU Public Safety at 911. For non-emergencies, call (269) 488-8911.

Office closings apply to non-represented University employees. Many represented employees may have contractually scheduled regular work days March 4-8 since the University continues to provide services during the recess. Represented employees should direct questions to their management.

Hours for campus offices and services

Many offices, including Admissions, Bronco Express, financial aid and Office of Student Transitions will maintain regular hours throughout the recess.

Bernhard Center and Bronco Mall store hours are available online. The Bernhard Center building closes at midnight on Friday, March 1; is open 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, March 2; closed Sunday, March 3; open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, March 4-6; open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, March 7; open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 8; open 9 a.m. to midnight Saturday and Sunday, March 9-10.

Bronco Transit  Main Campus and Parkview routes will not run Friday, March 1, or Monday through Friday, March 4-8. Routes will resume operation Monday, March 11. The Aviation Shuttle will run on its Saturday reduced hours Friday, March 1, and March 4-8.

Sindecuse Health Center and its pharmacy are closed Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3 and March 9-10 and open regular hours Monday through Friday, March 4-8.

Student Recreation Center is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, March 1; open noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3; open reduced hours 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, March 4-8; and open noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 9-10. The pool will be closed March 4-10. The recreation center resumes regular hours at 6 a.m. Monday, March 11. The center's main office will maintain regular hours, opening at 8 a.m. Monday through Friday, March 4-8.

Unified Clinics will maintain regular hours throughout the recess.

Miller Auditorium will maintain regular business hours throughout the recess.

Libraries

Waldo Library is open reduced hours, 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28; 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, March 1; closed Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3; open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, March 4-8; noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 9; and noon to midnight Sunday, March 10.

The Swain Education and Maybee Music and Dance libraries will be closed Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3; open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, March 4-8; closed Saturday, March 9; and open from 2 to 10 p.m. Sunday, March 10.

Zhang Legacy Collections Center, Archives and Regional History collections will also be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 2; closed Sunday and Monday, March 3-4; open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, March 5-8; open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 9; and closed Sunday, March 10.

Special Collections and Rare Book Room will be closed Friday to Sunday, March 1-3; open by appointment Monday through Friday, March 4-8, and closed Saturday and Sunday, March 9-10. The libraries resume regular hours Monday, March 11.

Campus computing

  • Bernhard Center computer lab closes at 5 p.m. Friday, March 1, and resumes its regular 24-hour operation beginning at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, March 10.
  • Information Technology Help Desk closes at 5 p.m. Friday, March 1; is closed Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3; open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, March 4-8; and closed Saturday, March 9. The Help Desk resumes regular hours at noon Sunday, March 10.
  • Mobile Help Desk is closed Friday, March 1, through Saturday, March 9. It will resume regular hours Sunday, March 10.
  • University Computer Center lab closes at 5 p.m. Friday, March 1, and remains closed Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3; is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, March 4-8; closed Saturday, March 9; and resumes regular hours at noon Sunday, March 10.

Energy Savings

To reduce energy costs during the recess, heating and cooling systems in all classroom buildings controlled by the WMU Building Energy Management System will be in recess mode. Air handlers will not run during this time, unless a space is exempt from the program or the temperature in a particular space goes outside of the range of 60 to 85 degrees.
