Some campus offices on reduced hours for winter recess
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Most Western Michigan University offices will observe winter recess from Thursday, Dec. 24, through Friday, Jan. 1. Winter recess begins with the end of fall semester, and some campus services will cease or have reduced hours through the start of spring semester.
- Residence halls open at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16.
- Spring semester begins at 8 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 11.
Listed below are holiday hours for select University offices and services. Faculty, staff, students and the public are encouraged to call ahead to make sure a particular office is open before driving to campus. Campus building hours are listed on the website and will be updated regularly.

Office closings apply to non-represented University employees. Many represented employees may have contractually scheduled regular work days Dec. 24 to Jan. 1 as the University continues to provide services during the recess. Represented employees should direct questions to their management.
Many offices, including admissions, Bronco Express, financial aid and the Office of Student Transitions will be closed Dec. 24 through Jan. 1.
The aviation shuttle will operate through Dec. 18 and resume for spring semester service on Jan. 11.
The Bernhard Center will be closed Dec. 24 through Jan. 3. It will open again with reduced hours Jan. 4 to Jan. 15 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, closed Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 9 and 10. Spring semester hours beginning Jan. 16 are as follows: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Store and vendor hours vary and are posted online.
Metro Transit service on campus ended Nov. 20 and resumes Jan. 10 for spring semester.
Miller Auditorium has suspended operations until further notice. Use the contact form for questions.
Sindecuse Health Center, including the pharmacy, is closed Dec. 24 through Jan. 3. Spring semester hours resume at 8 a.m. on Jan. 4. Medical emergencies should be referred to local hospitals or other health care providers.
The Student Recreation Center (SRC) is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 20 through 23, closed Dec. 24 through Jan. 3 and open Jan. 4 through 10 Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Jan. 11 through 17 Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday 2 to 6 p.m. On Monday, Jan. 18, the SRC will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Spring semester hours resume at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
Unified Clinics will close Dec. 24 to Jan. 1. Regular hours resume at 8 a.m. on Jan. 4.
Waldo Library is closed from Dec. 19 through Jan. 6, open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 7 and 8 and closed Jan. 9 and 10. Spring semester hours continue at 8 a.m. on Jan. 11.
Energy Savings
To reduce energy costs during the recess, heating and cooling systems in all office and classroom buildings controlled by the WMU Building Energy Management System will be in holiday mode, unless a space is exempt from the program. The temperature in spaces will not go outside of the range of 55 to 85 degrees. Portions of a particular building that do not regularly go into night setback mode will not go into holiday mode.
Employees are reminded to shut off and unplug all non-essential electronics before winter recess.
