Winter recess 2025-26: Know your campus hours
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Most Western Michigan University offices will observe the 2025-26 winter recess from Wednesday, Dec. 24, through Friday, Jan. 2, 2026. Some campus services will close or operate during limited hours until the start of the spring semester.
- Residence halls close Friday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m. and reopen at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10.
- Spring semester begins at 8 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 12.
Listed below are holiday hours for select University offices and services. Students, faculty, staff and the public are encouraged to call ahead to make sure a particular office is open.

Office closings apply to non-represented University employees. Many represented employees have contractually scheduled regular work days Dec. 24 to Jan. 2 since the University continues to provide services during winter recess. WMU offices and facilities
WMU Student Center hours will be posted when they are available.
Dining Services will begin adjusted hours Dec. 10. Student Center Dining and Valley Dining Center will be closed from Dec. 13 through Jan. 11. Spring semester hours begin on Jan. 12.
Many offices, including admissions, Bronco Express and the Office of Student Transitions, will be closed Dec. 24 through Jan. 2.
The Help Desk will be closed from Dec. 24 through Jan. 2. Beginning Jan. 5, services will be available Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
Aviation shuttle service will run through Dec. 15 and resume for spring semester service on Jan. 3.
Metro Transit campus services for Ring Road, Solon Kendall and Parkview routes will not run Dec. 15 through Jan. 4. They will resume Jan. 5 for the spring semester.
Miller Auditorium’s box office will close Dec. 24 and reopen on Jan. 5. Online ticket information is always available.
Sindecuse Health Center, including the pharmacy, is closed Dec. 24 through Jan. 2. Spring semester hours resume at 8 a.m. on Jan. 5. Medical emergencies should be referred to local hospitals or other health care providers.
The Student Recreation Center is:
- Open Dec. 15-19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Closed Dec. 20-21.
- Open Dec. 22-23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Closed from Dec. 24 to Jan. 4.
- Open Jan. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Open Jan. 6-9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Open Jan. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Closed Jan. 11.
Unified Clinics will close Dec. 24 through Jan. 2 and will reopen for regular hours on Jan. 5.
Waldo Library is closed Dec. 14 with limited hours until the start of the spring semester:
- Open Dec. 15-19 and Dec. 22-23, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Closed Dec. 24 to Jan. 4.
- Open Jan. 5-9 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except for a delayed 1 p.m. opening on Jan. 7.
- Closed Jan 10-11.
- Regular hours resume Jan. 12.
Energy savings
To reduce energy costs during the recess, heating and cooling systems in all office and classroom buildings controlled by the WMU building energy management system will be in holiday mode, unless a space is exempt from the program. The temperature in spaces will not go outside of the range of 55 to 85 degrees. Portions of a particular building that do not regularly go into night setback mode will not go into holiday mode.
Employees are reminded to shut off and unplug all nonessential electronics before winter recess.
