WMU Fieldwork Educator Award

 Emily Rumery, OTD, OTR/L is the recipient of WMU Grand Rapids Fieldwork Educator award for 2019. Emily's fieldwork student, Brittany Perlaki, nominated her after her placement at Madonna Rehab Hospital.

The Fieldwork Educator Recognition Award will be given to one or two fieldwork educators per cohort at the WMU Occupational Therapy Program Student Recognition Ceremony. WMU fieldwork students in OT 6910 can nominate any of their level II fieldwork educators (from OT 6900 or OT 6910) by writing a nomination letter. The letter should be sent to Sara Clark via an email attachment. The recipient(s) of the award will be chosen by the WMU academic fieldwork coordinator, the WMU assistant fieldwork coordinator, and the WMU fieldwork team, based on the nomination letter and the supporting criteria listed below.

Criteria for the Award:

  • Nomination letter from a WMU OT fieldwork student

  • Excellent communication with WMU’s academic fieldwork team throughout a student’s fieldwork experience for OT 6900 or OT 6910

  • Supportive constructive feedback given to the fieldwork student throughout the experience to help with professional growth and self-efficacy

  • Designs intentional and graded learning experiences to progress the fieldwork student towards entry level competence in a particular practice area

  • Clear expectations are provided to both the student and the WMU academic fieldwork team throughout the 12-week experience

  • Returns all required fieldwork paperwork to the WMU fieldwork team in a timely manner

  • Provides a significant amount of extra teaching time, outside of clinical treatment time, to foster the fieldwork student’s development as a future occupational therapist

Award:

  • Framed certificate signed by the WMU academic fieldwork team and the WMU OT department chair

  • Announced at the WMU Occupational Therapy Program Recognition Ceremony

  • Free Admission to Rider Colloquium at WMU
