FSSE 2025 Administration

WMU Instructors: Take the FSSE this spring, and help us to improve our programs and services!
Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE)

What - This spring WMU instructors will be invited to participate in the Faculty Survey of Student Engagement. The FSSE compliments the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), which our first-year students and seniors are also invited to take starting on February 18.

Why - The results of the two surveys when combined can provide valuable information to help us to see a full picture of our students' educational experiences in and outside of the classroom. This information can be used to show us where we're doing well, and areas where we can improve programs and services at WMU for all students.

How - If you are an instructor of record for the spring 2025 semester, you will receive an invitation to participate in the FSSE starting in February.

It takes approximately 15 minutes to complete the FSSE to share with us about your experiences and perspectives. We hope you'll consider participating, as your feedback is invaluable and can provide us with actionable data.

Thank you in advance for helping us to make WMU better! For questions or for more information, contact us.

What is the FSSE?

At WMU, we participate in the FSSE every three years. The FSSE was designed to complement the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). This instructional staff version (for faculty, instructors, and graduate students who teach) focuses on:

  • Instructional staff perceptions of how often students engage in different activities.
  • The importance instructional staff place on various areas of learning and development.
  • The nature and frequency of instructional staff -student interactions.
  • How instructional staff organize their time, both in and out of the classroom.

The information learned from our faculty, instructors, and graduate students can then be used to identify areas of strength, as well as aspects that we may decide warrant attention. The results are intended to be a catalyst for productive discussions related to teaching, learning and the quality of our undergraduates' educational experience at WMU.
