Measures of Success Series

March 19, 20, & 21

The University Assessment Steering Committee in collaboration with WMUx, is pleased to present this series of speakers and sessions focused on outcomes assessment and student success. Our intent is to provide a venue to share ideas, thoughtful presentations, and practical applications to help our community build and expand their assessment toolboxes.
For 2025, our theme is focused on experience-driven learning, and we've lined up some great sessions that will provide attendees who would like to explore this type of learning with tips for implementation, fresh ideas, and practical takeaways for how to assess student outcomes in this learning environment. Come join us for this annual series, we look forward to seeing you!

“Practical Tools to Assess and Strengthen Experiential Learning Inside and Outside the Classroom”

This presentation will explore how university faculty and staff from across the institution can use a variety of experiential learning methodologies to increase student engagement, strengthen learning, enhance career readiness, and build connections and capacity in the community. We will explore how and why experiential learning has grown in its presence and influence in higher education over the last two decades—both inside and outside the formal curriculum. What does the research suggest in terms of the impact and effectiveness of experiential learning? What are some of the common pitfalls and misconceptions in theory and practice? We will consider these questions in light of how to assess and strengthen experiential learning for students across the curriculum and co-curriculum at classroom, program, and institutional scales.
