JOB TITLE: Pilot / First Officer B727, MD-80, DC-9, DA-20

SUMMARY:

The First Officer or Second-in-Command (SIC) is administratively responsible to the Chief Pilot, and functionally responsible to the Captain on the flight to which he/she is assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • He/she must be knowledgeable of the Company General Operations Manual, Federal Regulations, Operations Specifications, Aircraft Flight Manuals and other instructions pertinent to his/her duties.
  • Determines that he/she meets the flight and duty time limitations, is adequately rested, and in proper uniform.
  • He/she shall keep the PIC apprised of the Company Standard Operating Procedures in all phases of flight.
  • At the discretion of the PIC, the second in command may be requested to perform additional duties such as:
  1. Filing, opening, or closing flight plans.
  2. Conducting preflight and post flight inspections.
  3. Checking to ensure required documents, navigational aids, manuals and equipment are on board.
  4. Supervises and/or completes the loading of cargo.
  5. Supervises and/or completes the securing of cargo, cargo nets and flight crew barrier nets.
  6. Supervises and assists in the loading of passenger or jump-seat personnel.
  7. Determining that carry-on items are properly stowed.
  8. Briefing the Courier or Jump-seater.
  9. Performing ATC communications.
  10. Other duties as assigned by the Captain
  • The First Officer is considered in training for upgrading as Captain and thus he/she is to take advantage of all Captain instructions and information available.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Must meet the recent experience requirements by FAR.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must hold a commercial pilot certificate with appropriate category and classing ratings and an instrument rating by FAR’s.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, outside in all weather conditions. The employee is trained to and could be called upon to handle and transport explosives.

The noise level in the work environment is often loud to very loud.
