Position Title: Safety Manager

Overview

Responsible for developing, managing, and improving the safety program of North Star Aviation. Outline and implement training programs to educate and inform constituents on aviation safety, environmental safety, and accident prevention regulations and procedures. Develop and distribute educational materials including videos, guides, and posters. Track and document incidents to understand causes and recommend changes to prevent future accidents. Perform inspections and audits of facilities, equipment and processes recommending corrections or additional precautions to ensure compliance to established regulations. Have a broad and current knowledge of all government and applicable industry safety regulations.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing aviation safety and ensuring compliance with aviation safety regulations, company policies, and other applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Assists in the creation and maintenance of policies and procedures for all operations and recommends revisions as needed to ensure risk is kept as low as reasonably practical.

  • Develop and coordinates employee and student safety training and facilitates training completion.

  • Maintain, promote, and grow the internal safety reporting program.

  • Process safety reports submitted by students and employees.

  • Lead investigations of safety events and reports. Partner with departments to initiate corrective

    action(s) as necessary.

  • Facilitates identification of safety and environmental risks and promotes reduction or elimination of

    potential accidents, occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and safety-related financial losses.

  • Perform periodic safety audits on an as-needed basis. Share critiques and results with pertinent

    departments and company management.

  • Inspect specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, or

    first-aid supplies.

  • Assists departments in working through and documenting the change management process to keep

    risk as low as reasonably practical.

  • Performs data analysis using data from various programs to measure and report on the

    effectiveness of risk controls.

  • Develop and share required reports, conduct briefings, safety trainings, and coordinate safety stand-

    down events.

  • Develop and publish safety promotion content for the company through different mediums (newsletter, digital screens, flyers, etc)

  • Reviews current best practices from the FAA and industry sources applicable to our operations and makes recommendations to departments and company management.

  • Maintain emergency response plan and procedures.

  • Maintain inventories of hazardous materials or hazardous wastes to ensure that materials are

    handled properly.

  • Promote safety awareness and contribute to the safety culture at North Star Aviation.

  • Serves as Chair of North Star Aviation’s internal Safety Review Board.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Safety background required; aviation safety background preferred

  • Instructor ratings preferred

  • Safety Management System experience preferred

Salary Range

  • $60,000 - $70,000
