Annual Report 2023-24
Overview
Financial aid is offered in the form of loans, grants, scholarships and work-study and our report is broken down into these four categories for the 2023-24 academic year. The data collected encompasses all enrolled FAFSA and non-FAFSA filer students for the 2023-24 academic year (Summer II 2023, Fall 2023, Spring 2024 and Summer I 2024). Most students are eligible for some type of financial aid and we encourage all students to annually file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Loans
Loans are considered borrowed funds that need to be repaid with interest. Federal loans often have the best interest rate, but private alternative loans are another great way to supplement financing educational costs.
Grants
Grants are gift funds that are typically offered based on financial need that do not need to be repaid.
Scholarships
Scholarships and grants are types of financial aid that do not need to be repaid. They are a great way to pay for educational costs and may reduce the need for student loans. Scholarships are supported by the WMU, the state and external sources.
Student employment
Student employment can aid in paying for indirect costs. Student employment offers the opportunity to explore career options, obtain transferable skills, work with faculty and staff who understand student life and helps to ease financial burdens.

Student financial aid statistics
Each year our office provides not only financial aid support services to our students, but to our campus community, providing financial aid education and assistance. We support everything from one-on-one appointments to large campus events to community involvement and more.
