At 7-0, WMU is one of 11 teams in the nation to be undefeated.

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—A week after making its first-ever appearance in the AP top-25 poll, the Western Michigan University football team, led by head coach P.J. Fleck, beat the Akron Zips 41-0 and was rewarded with a four-point increase in the AP standings.

Now ranked at No. 20 in the nation by the AP, the Broncos are 7-0 and one of 11 teams in the nation to be undefeated. Also ranked at No. 20 by the USA Today Amway Coaches Poll, the Broncos are bowl-eligible and have a realistic chance of being among teams playing in New Year's bowl games.

The Broncos' next game is against Eastern Michigan in a home match set for 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. A win in that game will move the Broncos to 8-0 and match the best start in program history. Other remaining games on the schedules are against Ball State, Kent State, Buffalo and Toledo.

Remaining schedule

  • Saturday, Oct. 22, 3:30 p.m., home at Waldo Stadium versus Eastern Michigan
  • Tuesday, Nov. 1, 8 p.m. away at Ball State
