Friday Feature: Ashley Pratt
This week’s Friday Feature is Ashley Pratt, a flight instructor and a Bronco alumna. Graduating from the College of Aviation in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Flight Science, Ashley is a Michigan native and continues to live in the area with her husband and children. She was drawn to Western because of the University’s culture. “People that become full-time instructors stay until retirement, which tells you a lot about it being a great place to work,” she said while working as the day’s Supervisor of Flying. “Everyone is genuine and approachable,” she added.

Epplett spent about nine years at the WMU College of Aviation as a student and staff member. He earned a bachelor's in aviation science and administration in 2012 and, while employed by Western, added a master's in sports management in 2015. He joined the College of Aviation's recruitment and outreach team right after his first degree was hanging on the wall. Since then, he has joined Kalitta Air, based at Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti on the east side of the state, as an international flight-clearance coordinator.

WMU professor awarded for book that peels back the curtain on Fetzer's secret life
The Historical Society of Michigan has awarded Wilson with its highest honor—the State History Award—for his book, "John E. Fetzer and the Quest for the New Age," which follows the businessman's journey from Seventh-day Adventism to a quest for global spiritual transformation. It's Wilson's second such award, also winning in 2015 for his religious study of Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, the Battle Creek Sanitarium director who essentially invented breakfast cereal.
Final parking strategy set for Arcadia Flats
In response to input at recent public sessions, nearly 200 parking spaces will be added near the new Arcadia Flats student housing development when it opens in the fall. The additional spaces will be included in an expansion of Lot 24, which runs along Ring Road between the west end of Arcadia Loop and Moore Drive. Lot 23, which is currently being used for construction activities, will also transition back to student parking once the project wraps up.
