Some campus offices on reduced hours for winter recess
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Most Western Michigan University offices will observe winter recess from Friday, Dec. 24, through Monday, Jan. 3. Some campus services will close or operate on limited hours through the start of spring semester.
- Residence halls reopen at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022.
- Spring semester begins at 8 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 10, 2022.
Listed below are holiday hours for select University offices and services. Students, faculty, staff and the public are encouraged to call ahead to make sure a particular office is open.

Office closings apply to non-represented University employees. Many represented employees have contractually scheduled regular work days Dec. 24 to Jan. 3 since the University continues to provide services during winter recess. Represented employees should direct questions to their management.

Many offices, including admissions, Bronco Express, financial aid and the Office of Student Transitions will be closed Dec. 24 through Jan. 3.
Aviation shuttle service will run through Dec. 17 and resume for spring semester service on Jan. 10.
The Bernhard Center will be closed Dec. 24 through Jan. 3. It will open again:
- Jan. 4-7, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Jan. 8, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Jan. 9, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Spring semester hours beginning Jan. 10 at the Bernhard Center are as follows: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.Store and vendor hours vary.
The Help Desk will provide support via phone, email and ITDirect until 5 p.m. Dec. 23 and reopen at 8 a.m. on Jan. 4.
Metro Transit campus services for Ring Road, Solon Kendall and Parkview routes ends Dec. 20 and resumes Jan. 10 for spring semester.
Miller Auditorium will close at 4 p.m. on Dec. 24 and reopen at noon on Jan. 3.
Sindecuse Health Center, including the pharmacy, is closed Dec. 24 through Jan. 3. Spring semester hours resume at 8 a.m. on Jan. 4. Medical emergencies should be referred to local hospitals or other health care providers.
The Student Recreation Center is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 20-23 and closed Dec. 24 through Jan. 3.
Unified Clinics will close Dec. 24 through Jan. 3 and reopen for regular hours on Jan. 4.
Waldo Library is:
- Closed on Dec. 19.
- Open Dec. 20-23, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Closed from Dec. 24 through Jan. 3.
- Open Jan. 4-7, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Closed Jan. 8 and 9.
Spring semester hours at Waldo Library begin at 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 10.
Energy Savings
To reduce energy costs during the recess, heating and cooling systems in all office and classroom buildings controlled by the WMU Building Energy Management System will be in holiday mode, unless a space is exempt from the program. The temperature in spaces will not go outside of the range of 55 to 85 degrees. Portions of a particular building that do not regularly go into night setback mode will not go into holiday mode.
Employees are reminded to shut off and unplug all nonessential electronics before winter recess.
