Broncos enjoy spring recess, some campus services on reduced hours

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Some campus services at Western Michigan University will be on reduced hours during spring recess, which begins Monday, March 7, and continues through Friday, March 11.

There are no classes on Friday, March 4, for Spirit Day and throughout spring recess, but most offices are open regular hours. Faculty, staff, students and the public are encouraged to call ahead to make sure a particular office is open before driving to campus. Daylight saving time begins Sunday, March 13; classes resume beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, March 14.

No bus or shuttle service will be available Friday, March 4, through Friday, March 11. Visit the busing webpage for more information on routes.

Office closings apply to non-represented University employees. Many represented employees may have contractually scheduled regular work days March 7-11 since the University continues to provide services during the recess. Represented employees should direct questions to their management.

Employees are reminded to shut off and unplug all nonessential electronics before spring recess.

Hours for campus offices and services

Many offices, including admissions, Bronco Express, financial aid and Office of Student Transitions will maintain regular hours throughout the recess. Sindecuse Health Center and its pharmacy will also maintain their normal hours of operation.

The Bernhard Center is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 4; closed March 5-6; open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. March 7-10; open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, March 11; and open 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. March 12-13. The WMU Bookstore is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, March 4; closed March 5-6; open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 7-11; and closed March 12-13.

Bronco Transit Main Campus and Parkview routes and the Aviation Shuttle will not run March 4-11. They will resume regular hours Monday, March 14.

The Student Recreation Center (SRC) is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, March 4, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m March 5-6, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 7-11; closed Saturday, March 12; and open 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 13. The SRC resumes regular hours at 6 a.m. Monday, March 14. The main office will maintain regular hours weekdays, open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Unified Clinics will maintain regular hours throughout the recess.

Miller Auditorium will maintain regular business hours throughout the recess.

Dining

Valley Dining Center closes for spring recess after dinner at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 3, and reopens for dinner on Sunday, March 13, from 4-8 p.m.

Henry Grab'n Go will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 4, and for reduced mealtime hours from Saturday, March 5, through Sunday, March 13. A full dining schedule is available online.

Regular spring dining hours resume Monday, March 14.

Libraries

Waldo Library will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 4. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 7-11 and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 12. Normal hours resume Sunday, March 13. Detailed hours of library operation are available on the University Libraries website.

Bookmark Café will be closed Friday, March 4, through Sunday, March 13.

Campus computing

  • The Bernhard Center computer lab closes at 8 p.m. Friday, March 4. It is closed March 5-6 and open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. March 7-11 and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. March 12-13. The lab resumes normal hours Monday, March 14.

  • The Information Technology Help Desk is open for phone and walk-in support from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, March 4. It will be closed March 5-6. The help desk is open for phone and walk-in support from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 7-11; closed Saturday, March 12; and open for phone support only from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 13.
