Assured Admission Program

Western Michigan University is committed to assisting in the education goals of our future students. Increasing access to higher education is an institutional focus, and to support this effort, we have established an Assured Admission program for incoming first-year students.

If a student meets or is on track to meet the criteria by high school completion, they are assured admission to WMU. Eligible students must apply to the institution by completing the Common App and providing all documents required for an admission decision. Please note that the Assured Admission program provides clarity to whether a student is admitted to WMU; however, it does not guarantee admission to our competitive programs.

Admission Criteria

1. Academic Performance.*

  • GPA 3.00+ (on a 4.00 scale)
  • Overall academic performance and grade trend is neutral or positive. This is largely achieved by end of semester class grades, where the most recent semester does not have multiple unsatisfactory grades (D or below).

*Students who do not meet the above requirements are still encouraged to apply to WMU. While a GPA below a 3.00 doesn't fall under the Assured Admission program, WMU does admit students with lower GPAs through a holistic review process to affirm academic preparation.

2. Conduct.

Information relating to the following circumstances should be disclosed on the application:

  • Any previous or pending disciplinary violation related to academic dishonesty or criminal offense must be reported on the admission application.
  • Most conduct violations do not prevent students from being admitted to WMU, but failing to disclose is considered falsification of the application and may result in admission offers being withdrawn.

Next Steps and Deadlines

Students should complete the Common App (including WMU Supplement), ask a school counselor to submit their official high school transcript(s), and submit the $40 application fee (or an approved waiver).
