Guest, Employee, and Other Students

Welcome to Western Michigan University! We're delighted that you're interested in learning more about the possibilities at WMU. We offer many choices for students who wish to take one course, pursue additional coursework or return to the University to complete a degree. The more you explore WMU, the more you'll realize this may be the perfect place to begin, continue, or complete your education.

Read below to discover which option best fits your needs as a domestic, undergraduate student. We also encourage you to consider the many options available through our regional locations and online education, graduate admissions or international admissions.

High school dual enrollment students

High school students in the greater Kalamazoo area who have demonstrated the potential for success in college may be eligible to enroll in WMU classes.

Guest students

Undergraduate students who are currently attending other colleges or universities may apply for guest student status at WMU.

Non-degree students

Students who plan not to seek a degree and only wish to take classes may apply for non-degree status.

Second bachelor’s degree students

Any student who already has a bachelor’s degree and wishes to obtain a second is classified as a Second Bachelor’s student.

Initial teacher certification for post-baccalaureates

Any student who already has a bachelor’s degree and wishes to obtain teacher certification.

Senior Citizens’ Opportunity Program in Education

The SCOPE program offers persons, age 62 or older, the opportunity to register for one class each semester, tuition free.

Returning students

Returning students and prior applicants and/or students who were admitted within the previous two years but never attended WMU may be eligible for readmission.

Employee and Employee Dependents

WMU employees and their dependents receive excellent benefits from the University and are encouraged to pursue educational opportunities.
