Why did you decide to attend WMU?

Leaving home taught me that the right university isn’t just one that educates you, but one that holds you through change. For me, that place was Western Michigan University. As an international student, choosing WMU meant trusting that I would be supported while navigating life in a new country. What drew me to WMU was not only its academic strength, but the genuine sense of care that exists across campus. WMU’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity creates an environment where students from different cultures and backgrounds are welcomed, respected, and encouraged to belong. Beyond the classroom, WMU stands out for how deeply it cares for its students. From access to essential resources to a community that consistently shows up, WMU ensures students feel supported in ways that truly matter. That reassurance made my decision feel right. Choosing WMU was choosing a community that values people first, a place where I could grow with confidence, stay true to myself, and build my future knowing I am not alone.

What is your favorite part of being a WMU student?

My favorite part of being a WMU student is how alive and deeply supportive the entire experience feels, both inside and outside the classroom. There is always something happening that brings people together and makes the campus feel like a true community. From large-scale events like Bronco Bash and Business Bash to multiple career fairs that open doors to future opportunities, WMU consistently creates spaces where growth feels exciting and accessible.

What I love most is the balance WMU offers between ambition and joy. Whether it’s unwinding through Zumba at the rec center, learning salsa, or enjoying creative moments like pumpkin painting, these experiences add warmth and connection to everyday campus life.

Being involved in student organizations has made my journey even more meaningful. As a member of NABA, I’ve had the opportunity to meet company recruiters in person and gain valuable insight into what organizations truly seek in a candidate. Those conversations helped transform career goals into clear, achievable steps. Through Beta Alpha Psi, experiences such as a company visit to Plante Moran and outings like Gull Meadow Farms allowed me to build both professional confidence and genuine friendships, reminding me that learning often happens through people and shared moments.

Another part of WMU that stands out to me is its incredible academic support system. The library is more than just a place to study, it hosts engaging events and offers an abundance of resources that support students at every stage of their academic journey. Similarly, the Communication Center has been an invaluable space for getting started on resumes and CVs, refining assignments, and preparing confidently for presentations. These services make learning feel supported rather than overwhelming.

Together, these experiences, events, organizations, academic resources, and support services, have shaped my time at WMU into something far greater than academics alone. They’ve created a journey filled with growth, confidence, meaningful connections, and memories I will carry long after graduation.

Yes, I feel deeply and genuinely supported at Western Michigan University, academically, socially, and professionally. That support has never felt distant or institutional; it has felt personal, consistent, and human. Academically, my professors have been pillars of encouragement. When I initially struggled to understand concepts and assignments, Dr. Razi Mohammed stepped in with patience and clarity, ensuring I never felt lost or discouraged. His guidance reminded me that learning is a process, and that asking for help is part of growth. 

Throughout my first semester, Dr. Beth Ernst has been one of my greatest supporters. She leads with excellence and heart, constantly encouraging me to step forward, get involved, and evolve, not just as a student, but as a confident individual. Her belief in students is empowering and transformative. Beyond the classroom, support has come in moments of transition and reassurance. My academic advisor, Renuka Phillips, has been an anchor during my journey from India to the U.S. 

Through one-on-one guidance, she helped me plan my courses thoughtfully and navigate a new academic system with confidence. Her support made an unfamiliar path feel structured and achievable. WMU’s care also extends beyond academics. University services such as Title IX reflect a strong commitment to student safety and well-being. 

In this space, Dr. Reetha Ravindran stands out for her warmth, empathy, and dedication. She has an incredible ability to make students feel welcomed, heard, and supported, ensuring that wellness, education, and learning are always intertwined. Together, these individuals and services have shaped my experience at WMU into one defined by trust and encouragement. I am supported not just in moments of success, but especially in moments of uncertainty, and that is what has made my journey here both empowering and meaningful.

I decided to attend Western Michigan University because it offers strong academic programs, supportive faculty, and opportunities for hands-on learning that align with my career goals. WMU also provides a diverse and welcoming campus environment that supports both personal and professional growth.

What is your favorite part of being a WMU student?

My favorite part of being a WMU student is the opportunity to learn in a supportive and diverse environment while gaining real-world experience through campus jobs, projects, and involvement opportunities that help prepare me for my future career.

Do you feel supported as a student at WMU?

Yes, I feel supported as a student at Western Michigan University both academically and professionally. The faculty and advisors are approachable and willing to help, and there are many campus resources such as tutoring, career services, and student organizations that support academic success and career development. The inclusive campus environment also helps students feel welcomed and connected.

Why did you decide to attend WMU?

I knew several Dominican students who studied here a few years ago, and they gave me excellent recommendations about the Economics Department at WMU. Also, Susan Pozo is one of the leading professors conducting research on my home country, the Dominican Republic.

What is your favorite part of being a WMU student?

My favorite part of being a WMU student is the sense of community and the access to faculty who genuinely care about students’ growth. You feel supported academically, professionally, and personally. The professors don’t just teach, they mentor, challenge you, and open doors for you.

Do you feel supported as a student at WMU?

Yes, I do feel supported at WMU, academically, socially, and professionally. Academically, my professors take the time to explain concepts deeply and offer guidance outside of class, which makes a huge difference in my learning. Socially, the campus community is welcoming, and I’ve built meaningful relationships through student groups and cultural activities, such as the Latin Dance Group. Professionally, faculty members actively encourage research involvement, connect students with opportunities, and genuinely invest in our growth, like in my research.

Why did you decide to attend WMU?

I was drawn to WMU because of the community. From the moment I stepped on campus I was embraced by the gymnastics team, coaches and staff and was truly made to feel at home. Competing in gymnastics at a D1 level was a dream of mine since I was a little girl, and I feel so lucky that I am here at WMU and able to contribute to the legacy of WMU gymnastics while getting an amazing education.

What is your favorite part of being a WMU student?

Some of my favourite memories as a Bronco athlete so far have been cheering on the other sports teams! The school spirit here is unmatched and I love how everyone is so proud to be a Bronco. Another reason I love being a Bronco is because of the amazing support staff and advisors that we have here; they have truly taken the time to get to know me and have gone out of their way to help make my transition as an international student-athlete as smooth as possible. I have also built great relationships with many of the advisors in the international office and I know there is always someone I can turn to at WMU.

Why did you decide to attend WMU?

I chose Western Michigan University because of its strong academic reputation and welcoming international community. The programs in Political Science and Public Administration aligned perfectly with my research interests in governance, development, and climate policy. I was also drawn to the emphasis on applied learning and the opportunity to engage in research that addresses real-world challenges both locally and globally.

What is your favorite part of being a WMU student?

My favorite part of being a WMU student is the sense of community and the accessibility of faculty and resources. Professors are genuinely supportive and encourage independent research, while the campus offers many opportunities to present work, collaborate across disciplines, and grow personally and professionally. The diverse student body and vibrant academic culture make WMU a truly inspiring environment.

Do you feel supported as a student at WMU?

Yes, I feel very supported at WMU in all aspects. Academically, professors provide valuable feedback and mentorship that help refine my research and writing. Socially, the international student programs and campus events create a welcoming environment where it’s easy to connect with others. Professionally, WMU’s career services, workshops, and networking opportunities, along with faculty guidance, have been instrumental in helping me plan for my future in research and public policy.

Why did you decide to attend WMU?

I chose to attend Western Michigan University because of its strong emphasis on experiential learning and innovation in Fashion Merchandising and Design departments. The program offers the perfect balance between creativity, sustainability, and industry relevance, which aligns with my career goals in sustainable fashion and community development. I was also drawn to WMU’s supportive academic environment and the opportunities for international students community.

What is your favorite part of being a WMU student?

My favorite part of being a WMU student is the sense of community and the access to opportunities that encourage both academic and personal growth. From engaging classroom discussions to hands-on projects and campus initiatives, WMU provides a space where students can thrive, connect with diverse peers, and make a real impact and also makes you feel like you are home, especially the RSO’s on campus.

Do you feel supported as a student at WMU?

Yes, I feel highly supported at WMU academically, socially, and professionally. My professors are approachable and genuinely invested in student success, offering mentorship and feedback that help me grow in my studies and research. Socially, student organizations like the Bronco African Student Association and campus events have helped me build meaningful relationships. Professionally, WMU’s career services, workshops, and networking events with some of them being organized provide excellent preparation for future opportunities in the fashion industry and beyond.

Why did you decide to attend WMU?

Western Michigan University stood out to me for its strong Computer Science program, cutting-edge research environment, and the opportunity to work under experienced faculty members whose research aligns with my interests in Artificial Intelligence and social media mining. WMU’s commitment to global education and its diverse academic community also made it an ideal place to pursue my Ph.D. and grow both academically and personally.

What is your favorite part of being a WMU student?

My favorite part of being a WMU student is the supportive and collaborative academic atmosphere. The faculty and staff are genuinely committed to helping students succeed, and the multicultural environment fosters meaningful global connections. I also appreciate the balance between rigorous research and community engagement that WMU encourages.

Do you feel supported as a student at WMU?

Yes, absolutely. Academically, my advisor and department provide continuous guidance and encouragement in shaping my research direction. Socially, WMU offers numerous multicultural events and student organizations that make international students feel at home. Professionally, the university’s Graduate College and Career Services provide valuable workshops, assistantship opportunities, and networking platforms that help students prepare for future academic and industry careers.

Why did you decide to attend WMU?

I chose WMU because of the strong MPA program and supportive faculty. The focus on practical learning and research fit my interest in nonprofits and social issues. I also wanted a diverse, welcoming campus where I could grow academically and personally.

What is your favorite part of being a WMU student?

I enjoy the diversity on campus and learning from classmates with different backgrounds. Being part of the Japan Club and library staff lets me connect with people and build community. I also like how my classes challenge me to think critically about public issues and nonprofits.

Do you feel supported as a student at WMU?

Yes, I feel supported in all areas. Academically, professors give me helpful feedback and guidance on my research. Socially, student organizations like Japan Club give me a sense of belonging. Professionally, my campus job and faculty connections help me prepare for my career.

Why did you decide to attend WMU?

It has excellent research opportunities in my area of interest (construction engineering and management) in a great community.
