Alumna Spotlight: Monique Colizzi – Inspiring Students Through Education and Leadership
“Working in a solely virtual environment through WMU allowed me to collaborate, problem solve, and creatively execute ideas that aided in my success. I have since been recognized nationally for my ability to engage and prepare students—all with thanks to this program.”
For Monique Colizzi, teaching is more than a career—it’s a calling shaped by passion, purpose, and the desire to make a lasting difference. A proud Western Michigan University alumna, Colizzi serves as an Instructor of Business & Risk Management at the Wilson Talent Center (WTC), where she prepares high school students for success in college, careers, and beyond.
With more than two decades of experience in education, Colizzi is known for her dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment to helping every student see their potential. Her work has earned her statewide recognition, including the Michigan Lottery’s Excellence in Education Award, an honor that celebrates educators who demonstrate exceptional leadership, effectiveness, and inspiration in their classrooms.
“Monique’s passion for the curriculum she teaches and for her students does not go unnoticed,” said Joe Wenzel, Principal at the WTC. “As a career and technical education teacher, she ensures her students have multiple pathways to success.”
Colizzi credits her late father, a respected educational leader, for inspiring her to enter the field. “My hope is to impact my students the same way my father did—by advocating for them,” she shared.
Through her work, Monique continues to exemplify the values of a WMU education—leadership, compassion, and lifelong learning—and serves as an inspiring example for future educators.
