Course Selection for Exchange and American University Experience (Partner)
Exchange and American University Experience students are eligible to take courses in all programs at Western Michigan University contingent on the student having completed the appropriate prerequisites and having the appropriate level of English-language proficiency. For some subject areas, pre-approval from academic department or college may be required.
- Undergraduate students may take 12 to 15 credit hours per semester. A minimum of 12 credit hours is needed to maintain visa status.
- Graduate students may take six to nine credit hours per semester. A minimum of six credit hours is needed to maintain visa status.
Once students have completed online application, they must submit the Course Selection form, signed by the international office at the student's home university. WMU cannot process the form without this signature. Include a copy of the appropriate learning contracts or forms used at the home university.
Applicants should list twice the required number of courses to allow for scheduling and capacity conflicts. Before completing the Course Selection form, WMU recommends that students verify the desired courses will be offered during the semester of study by checking WMU's online course offerings database. Course descriptions are available in the undergraduate and graduate catalogs.
Course Selection form must be signed by the home university or it will not be processed.
