Join in the climate action movement and be part of the solution.Climate action is for everyone whether you are just starting or already involved. You can learn more during the WMU Office for Sustainability’s free event: Climate Action: Food, Fashion & Activism. The event will focus on major contributors of climate change and provide tools and resources for you to be empowered to engage in climate action. The event is divided into three 45-minute workshops featuring interactive learning. Sign up for one or all three events on Eventbrite and reserve your ticket(s) today! Climate Activism 101: Understanding Your Role 

5 to 5:45 p.m. Sangren Hall, Room 2110

Join Anne Marie Hertl, an environmental advocacy practitioner and trainer, to explore what activism is and common barriers that hold us back from effective activism. Together we will examine the history of environmental justice and environmental movement building to model a climate resilient future based in justice and intersectionality. You will leave this workshop with a new framework and language to practice just movement building.

Climate Change & Sustainability in the Fashion Industry

6 to 6:45 p.m. Sangren Hall, Room 2110

The fashion industry and fast fashion produces high carbon emissions and negative economic, social and environmental impacts. Rose Soma, a WMU student majoring in fashion merchandising, will walk you through the issues of the fashion industry, provide resourceful ways to shop responsibly and demonstrate how to reuse your clothing. Rose will also provide a hands-on experience on how to sew and repair damaged clothing. You will be able to take home your very own sewing kit from this workshop.

Low-Carbon Cooking Demonstration

7 to 7:45 p.m. Sangren Hall, Room 2110

Take part in a low-carbon cooking demonstration to promote sustainable and carbon conscious eating with Hristina Petrovska! Hristina is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, working as Food Systems Program Coordinator at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. She is passionate about connecting with people and creating cooking demonstrations for education and action. Hristina's cooking demonstration will teach you about mindful purchasing, preparing and using foods that use less resources while minimizing waste.  Be prepared to try some delicious food during this demonstration!
