Submission of Certification of Counseling Education
If you have completed a Western Michigan University Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology master’s degree and are seeking licensure as a licensed professional counselor (LLPC/LPC) in Michigan, follow the steps below, as required by the Michigan Board of Counseling, to apply for your license. The Michigan Board of Counseling no longer requires the Certification of Counseling Education form. To apply for your LLPC/LPC license, please follow application instructions outlined by the board (updated 9/29/2022).
- Fill out and submit the appropriate licensing and application forms found at the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Michigan Board of Counseling. Please be sure to review the directions in their entirety.
- Request an official transcript, through the Registrar's Office, be sent directly to Bureau of Professional Licensing at the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (as found in your application directions).
- If you have completed a Western Michigan University Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology master's or doctoral degree in counseling psychology and are seeking a master's level or doctoral level license as a psychologist (TLLP/LLP) in Michigan, follow the steps below under "Psychologist License" on the Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling and Psychology Licensure website.
- If you have completed a Western Michigan University Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology master’s degree in marriage, couple, and family counseling and are seeking licensure as a marriage and family therapist (LLMFT/LMFT) in Michigan, follow the steps below under "Marriage and Family Therapy License" on the Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling and Psychology Licensure website.
