Tom Sweet, B.B.A.’81
CFO, Dell Technologies (retired)
Thomas (Tom) Sweet is a seasoned financial executive with over three decades of experience in the technology and industrial sectors. Notably, he served as chief financial officer of Dell Technologies from 2014 to 2023, culminating a 26-year career at the company. During his tenure as CFO, Sweet managed all global finance functions, including accounting, financial planning and analysis, tax, treasury, investor relations, Dell Financial Services and Dell Technologies Capital. He also played a critical role in corporate strategy, collaborating closely with the CEO to drive long-term growth.
He joined Dell in 1997 and held various senior leadership roles prior to becoming CFO. He played a key role during Dell’s five-year privatization period and also gained operational experience in sales leadership within educational and corporate business units.
Before joining Dell, Sweet was vice president of accounting and finance at Telos Corporation and spent 13 years at Price Waterhouse, where he specialized in audit and accounting services for the technology sector.
Sweet currently serves on several boards, including Trimble, 3M and Medline Industries. He also contributes to the community as chair of the advisory board for the Salvation Army of Central Texas.
He met his wife, Kathy, B.B.A.’81, at Western Michigan University. They have three children and six grandchildren. In his retirement, Sweet remains deeply committed to both professional excellence and community service.
