Employers

Our passion is helping to connect employers with talent and resources. And at WMU Haworth, our business students bring immediate value to organizations. We focus on experience-driven learning, which means students get a thorough grounding in subject matter, the chance to apply what they have learned in real-world scenarios—often with real companies—and the ability to practice the soft skills that employers cite as extremely important to job success.

We also place a high value on student professionalism. In the Zhang Career Center, we work with our students to develop professional behavior by teaching appropriate business communication, punctuality and overall conduct. We hold students to a high standard and have policies in place for students who do not meet expectations. This provides peace of mind to you as an employer, while also giving our students the chance to establish good patterns of behavior for their careers.

How do we help employers?

All WMU students have access to Handshake, which is the central location for internships and jobs. Posting your open position on Handshake is a great way to ensure that students will see it and apply.

How to use Handshake:

  • If you already have a Handshake account, you may log in at wmich.joinhandshake.com and add Western Michigan University by clicking "Schools" on the left-hand sidebar, then clicking "Search Schools" in the top right. Find Western Michigan University and click "Request Access."
  • If you do not have an account, you may create one by visiting wmich.joinhandshake.com and clicking the Handshake logo. Then click "Need an Account." Handshake will walk you through the process of creating an account.

Questions? Visit the Handshake Frequently Asked Questions page or call us at (269) 387-2711.
