Western Michigan University College of Engineering and Applied Sciences First-Year student incentives 2021

New College of Engineering and Applied Sciences student incentives

Welcome to the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Western Michigan University!  We are excited to see you on campus this fall.

CEAS is thrilled to be able to offer two additional incentives for our incoming new students – one to encourage you to meet with your advisor and setup your fall class schedule and a second to encourage you to solidify your mathematical knowledge to set the stage for a successful fall semester.

  • All new CEAS students (first-year and transfer) who are registered as full-time WMU students for Fall 2021 by 8/15/21 will be entered into a drawing for one of five $1000 scholarships.  One lucky winner will receive a four-year scholarship ($1000/yr).  To be eligible, students must make an appointment with their academic advisor by 7/31/21 and be registered for at least 12 credits for the Fall 2021 semester by 8/15/21.  Eligible students must have a declared major within the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and be registered for at least 12 credits as of 9/9/21.  Continuing eligibility for the four-year scholarship requires a cumulative 2.0 GPA, a declared major in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and full-time enrollment unless an exception is approved by the Dean of CEAS.
  • All new CEAS students who have taken the preliminary ALEKS math placement assessment and spent at least 10 hours studying with the recommended learning modules by 8/15/21 will be entered into a drawing for one of five $1000 scholarships.  One lucky winner will receive a four-year scholarship ($1000/yr).  To be eligible, students must establish a WMU-linked ALEKS account (https://wmich.edu/math/placement), complete the initial ALEKS assessment, and then spend at least 10 hours with the recommended ALEKS learning modules by 8/15/2021.  Students who were not required to complete ALEKS for math placement are eligible for the drawing if they meet the learning module use requirement.  Students who need an ALEKS score for math placement must also achieve a score of at least 30 to be able to declare a major in CEAS.  Module use time is defined as the official usage time recorded by the ALEKS system.
See the WMU Office of Student Transitions for your next steps: https://wmich.edu/transitions/orientation. Please follow the checklists in the Gold Gateway and Student Orientation Hub.  When you are ready to contact your CEAS advisor, visit the CEAS Office of Advising and Student Success for more information or call (269) 276-3270.

Scholarship winners should check with Bronco Express regarding how these awards integrate with their overall financial aid package.  Awardees can elect to receive the funds for the fall semester (credited to their accounts in approximately late September), spring semester (credited to their accounts in approximately early January), or split between the two.

All new CEAS students for Fall 2021 who meet the registration requirements and/or ALEKS module usage requirements stated above (including those who completed them previously) will be entered into the drawings for the corresponding incentive scholarships.
