Social Work Ethical Issues and Dilemmas: Confidentiality, Dual Relationships and Social Justice

Posted by Joel Krauss for College of Health and Human Services

This course addresses the practice gap of learning to do ethical decision-making when confronted with dilemmas regarding confidentiality, dual relationships and social justice. Human service professionals need to comprehend and apply the NASW Code of Ethics standards when making decisions about their practice, supervising others and in providing their clients/consumers with options so they make informed decisions. In the workshop we will also focus on social workers’ responsibility to engage in critical self-reflection on their biases and social and political action to eliminate injustice. Social workers must make decisions in crisis situations and they need ethical knowledge and skills in raising questions to consider before taking action.
