WMU Giving Day - April 17, 2024 - is your chance to give back to the College of Health and Human Services. This year, we are highlighting five funds within the college:

  • Bronson Alumni Nursing Fund

  • Department of Physician Assistant Anniversary Scholarship Fund

  • Louella Bradley Endowed Scholarship

  • Specialty Program for Alcohol and Drug Abuse

  • Unified Clinics Fund for Excellence

You can learn more below about these funds and what they do for our students and for our college. Once you're on the Giving Day site, you can un-select any of our pre-selected funds and use the search function to add other WMU funds to your list.

Bronson Alumni Nursing Fund

The Bronson School of Nursing will celebrate its 30th anniversary in fall 2024. Help us celebrate another 30 years this Giving Day by making a gift to support the school's project to buy new manikins, which provide hands-on learning experience for our future nurses. Here at the College of Health and Human Services, we train the healthcare workers of tomorrow, and having access to tools to closely emulate real-world experience has proven critical in our students’ success.

Nursing education has a history spanning over 100 years in Kalamazoo. Our Bronson School of Nursing turns 30 years old this year, and we hope you help us celebrate by making a gift to support the next 30 years!

Department of Physician Assistant Anniversary Scholarship Fund

When Dr. William Birch, obstetrician and gynecologist, founded the physician assistant program at WMU in 1972, it was just the second in the state of Michigan and one of the first PA programs in the nation. The memory of Dr. Birch lives on in his family and in his former students, who have joined together to create a scholarship in his memory.

Please join us by making a gift to support scholarships for physician assistant students on Giving Day!

Louella Bradley Endowed Scholarship

Since 1969, Psi Iota Xi's Eta Omicron Kalamazoo chapter has supported the field of speech pathology and audiology with donations to our Van Riper Speech Clinic and the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences. The organization has established an endowment in honor of one of its most admired members, Louella Bradley.

Bradley served as the group's first president in 1969 and has served as president of the state organization as well. Members of Eta Omicron remember Bradley for the love and joy she brought to the group and for her dedication and enthusiasm as she led their chapter in its service to others.

Specialty Program for Alcohol and Drug Abuse

The Specialty Program in Alcohol and Drug Abuse at Western Michigan University is the first of its kind in Michigan and the first university-based training clinic in Michigan to address substance use disorders. In fall 2023, we celebrated our 50th anniversary.

An anonymous donor has pledged $50,000 to match donations, dollar for dollar. So you can double your impact this Giving Day.

Unified Clinics Fund for Excellence

WMU's Unified Clinics have a 30 year history of making a difference in the Kalamazoo community. With services ranging from behavioral health services to animal-assisted therapy, our practitioners are ready to help you on your health and wellness journey. The Unified Clinics also serve as a location where WMU students gain valuable hands-on experience in patient care. We rely on the generosity of supporters like you to make these services possible. Learn more about the impact you can make below:

  • $25 pays for clinic supplies for a child that can only eat one food
  • $100 helps provide a clinical assessment for a child who is struggling to make friends
  • $250 provides a hearing test for one infant and one toddler
  • $500 can pair a child with a student clinician for one semester who helps provide necessary services
