CHHS Sponsors WMU Women’s Track Team’s Homecoming 5K
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—The College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) is proud to sponsor the WMU Women’s Track Team’s Homecoming 5K, taking place on October 12, 2025. As the second-highest donor to the event, CHHS continues to demonstrate its commitment to health, wellness and student success—both in and out of the classroom.
Kevin Cataldo, head coach of the women’s track team, has worked diligently to plan the race with his athletes, and CHHS is excited to highlight students within the college who are participating. Among them is Soniya Jones, a standout student in the Healthcare Services and Sciences program.
Jones shared her journey to WMU, saying, “I was recruited by Coach Josiah Norville to run for his team, and I was immediately drawn to the strong team dynamics and supportive coaching staff I met during my visit. At the same time, CHHS attracted me because of my passion for becoming a physical therapist and my desire to grow into the best healthcare professional I can be.”
Her experience as a CHHS student has shaped her academic and professional goals. “Being part of CHHS inspired me to set higher standards for myself while continuing to grow both professionally and academically,” Jones said. “It strengthened my motivation to earn my doctorate in physical therapy.”
Jones also spoke about the power of mentorship within CHHS, highlighting her connection with Professor Ron Cisler. “One of the most memorable experiences I’ve had in the college was my connection with Professor Cisler. He consistently checked in with me—even just for life chats—and I’ll always appreciate the genuine support he gave me. Professors like him leave a lifelong impact.”
Her dual role as a student and athlete has given her a unique perspective on health and wellness, reinforcing the values CHHS promotes across its programs. As the college prepares to support the Homecoming 5K, it celebrates students like Jones who embody resilience, ambition, and community spirit.
