New social work grad Courtney Dunsmore honored for making a difference
At the WMU Graduate Student Association’s Evening of Excellence and Award Ceremony on Friday, April 17, recent master’s in social work graduate Courtney Dunsmore received a Graduate Student Make a Difference Award. The Graduate Student Association accepted nominations for this peer-to-peer award from a number of University academic colleges, offices and institutes. Dunsmore was the student selected to represent the College of Health and Human Services for her commitment and outstanding service to making a difference at WMU and in the community.
According to her nominator, “Courtney’s Bronco pride stood out through her personality and the way she promotes a positive image of her program, the college and the University. Courtney is always the first person to jump on volunteer activities…such as serving with The Land Bank on MLK day helping to restore apartments in Washington Square.”
Her nominator also noted her involvement as a member of the School of Social Work’s Field Subcommittee and Admissions Policy Committee, as well as her employment as a communications graduate assistant in the health and human services dean’s office from May 2014 until her 2015 graduation. In that role, she provided building tours for prospective students and was key to coordinating several events, including the college’s first ever health fair tent at the 2014 Homecoming alumni tailgate event. “Lastly,” her nominator stated, “Courtney is a true Bronco through and through.”
