Esports Gaming Station Expansion at the University Computing Center

The gaming section of Western Michigan University’s Computing Center Lab recently expanded by four new stations adding up to 20 total stations. This expansion creates more availability for students that regularly practice for competitive tournaments or are actively involved in the gaming community.

In collaboration with Western Michigan University's Department of Blindness and Low Vision Studies, Kevin Abbott, the director of the virtual reality (VR) development studio and Leah Barton, a student and VR lab manager, successfully helped develop 3D-printed maps that can help people with visual impairments navigate campus.

At the start of each semester the Office of Information Technology sees an increase in phishing attacks aimed at new students and students returning to campus after a break. Greg Lozeau, the Director of IT Security and Privacy, took some time to talk with Maggie Drew, a staff reporter of the Western Herald, about phishing; what it is, what to do if you get phished and how to avoid it.
