National Cybersecurity Awareness Month: Own IT. Secure IT. Protect IT.

National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM), celebrated every October, is a collaborative effort between government and industry to raise awareness of the importance of cybersecurity and ensure that all Americans have the tools they need to be safer and more secure online.

WWMT's Lora Painter had a chance to stop by Waldo Library and chat with Scott Russell and Kevin Abbott about the one year anniversary of the Virtual Reality Lab. The VR Lab came into being through the collaborative efforts of both the Library and the Office of Information Technology.

At the start of each semester the Office of Information Technology sees an increase in phishing attacks aimed at new students and students returning to campus after a break. Greg Lozeau, the Director of IT Security and Privacy, took some time to talk with Maggie Drew, a staff reporter of the Western Herald, about phishing; what it is, what to do if you get phished and how to avoid it.

Western Michigan University's W Care virtual reality nursing simulation was a big hit at MiCareerQuest Southwest! We had over 50 students come explore how virtual reality is helping to train future nurses.
