Trustees approve new contract for WMU public safety officers, detectives

At its June 24 meeting, the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees authorized the University administration to implement a new one-year agreement between WMU and its 22-member Police Officers Association.

Western board votes to keep tuition increase well below cap proposed by state officials

In keeping with the University’s commitment to providing an affordable and high-quality education, the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees approved a tuition and required fee increase that falls well below the tuition-increase restraint cap proposed by the governor and Michigan Senate. 

Interim head of research and innovation appointed as Western plans search in fall

The Board of Trustees approved the appointment of administrator and faculty member Dr. Steven Carr as interim vice president for the Office of Research and Innovation. The University will be launching a national search to secure a permanent leader for the Office of Research and Innovation. A search firm will be selected in the coming weeks, and a search committee will be assembled in the fall.

WMU student receives competitive $10,000 accountancy scholarship

The merit-based scholarship is intended to encourage accounting students to pursue careers in audit.

Western to confer almost 1,300 degrees during virtual commencement ceremonies June 26

After losing his vision in a home invasion, Robert Parsons has found hope and purpose in helping others who experience blindness and low vision. He will receive master's degrees in rehabilitation counseling and vision rehabilitation therapy from Western and has aspirations to set the standard for training rehabilitation counselors.

Western Michigan University held virtual commencement ceremonies on May 1 in which more than 2,400 students officially graduated. College of Health and Human Services staff and faculty gathered at the building in the morning to celebrate and take pictures with graduates and their families before the ceremony.
