Campus office hours set for Thanksgiving recess 2022
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Western Michigan University will end classes for Thanksgiving recess beginning at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 23, and continuing through Sunday, Nov. 27. Classes resume at 8 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 28.
Some WMU offices will close or operate on limited hours Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 24-27. Listed below are hours on Thanksgiving Day for select University offices and services. Students, employees and the public are encouraged to call ahead to make sure that a particular office on campus is open. For emergencies only, contact WMU Public Safety at 911. For non-emergencies, call (269) 488-8911.
Office closings apply to non-represented University employees. Many represented employees have contractually scheduled regular work days Nov. 24-25 since the University continues to provide services during Thanksgiving recess. Represented employees should direct questions to their management.
Closures and special hours
Many offices, including admissions, Bronco Express and Office of Student Transitions will be closed Nov. 24-27.
Aviation shuttle service will run through Nov. 23 with the last departure from the College of Aviation at 8:35 p.m. There will be no service Nov. 24–25. The shuttle will resume Nov. 28 through Dec. 18.
Bernhard Center and Bronco Mall close at 5 p.m. Nov. 23 and will remain closed through Nov. 24. The building will reopen on Nov. 25 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., close Nov. 26 and open Nov. 27 from noon to midnight. Visit the Bernhard Center webpage for a complete listing of Thanksgiving recess hours.
The Help Desk will provide support via phone, email and ITDirect until 5 p.m. Nov. 23 and reopen at 8 a.m. on Nov. 28.
Metro Transit service for Ring Road, Solon Kendall and Parkview routes on campus and the Aviation Shuttle will be closed Nov. 24-25 and resume on Nov. 28.
Miller Auditorium will close at 4 p.m. on Nov. 23 and reopen at noon on Nov. 28.
Sindecuse Health Center, including the pharmacy, is closed Nov. 24-25 and will resume regular hours Monday through Friday on Nov. 28. Medical emergencies should be referred to local hospitals or other health care providers.
The Student Recreation Center (SRC) will operate from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 23 before closing Nov. 24-26. On Nov. 27, the SRC will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and resume normal operations on Nov. 28.
Unified Clinics will close Nov. 24-25 and reopen for regular hours beginning at 8 a.m. Nov. 28.
WMU Libraries' Waldo Library will close at 5 p.m. on Nov. 24 and reopen at noon on Nov. 27. For more information on hours, call (269) 387-5155 or visit the hours webpage.
Energy savings
To reduce energy costs during the recess, heating and cooling systems in all office and classroom buildings controlled by the WMU Building Energy Management System will be in holiday mode, unless a space is exempt from the program. The temperature in spaces will not go outside of the range of 60 to 85 degrees. Portions of a particular building that do not regularly go into night setback mode will not go into holiday mode.
Employees are reminded to shut off and unplug all nonessential electronics before the long weekend.
