Plan ahead: Here are campus office hours for Thanksgiving 2025 recess

Update: Due to weather conditions, the Student Recreation Center will remain closed on Sunday, Nov. 30.

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Western Michigan University will end classes for Thanksgiving recess beginning at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 26, and continuing through Sunday, Nov. 30. Classes will resume at 8 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 1. 

Some WMU offices will close or operate during limited hours Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 27-30. Students, faculty, staff and the public are encouraged to call ahead to make sure that a particular office on campus is open. For emergencies only, contact WMU’s Department of Public Safety at 911. For non-emergencies, call (269) 488-8911. 

Office closings apply to non-represented University employees. Many represented employees have contractually scheduled regular work days Nov. 27-28 since the University continues to provide services during Thanksgiving recess. Represented employees should direct questions to their management. 

Closures and special hours

Many offices, including admissions, Bronco Express and student transitions will be closed Nov. 27-30. 

Aviation shuttle service will run until noon on Nov. 26. There will be no service Nov. 27-28. The shuttle will resume Nov. 29 through Dec. 14. 

The Help Desk will provide support via phone and email until 5 p.m. on Nov. 26 and will reopen at 8 a.m. on Dec. 1. 

Metro Transit service for Ring Road, Solon Kendall and Parkview routes on campus will close starting at noon on Nov. 26 and will resume on Dec. 1. 

Miller Auditorium will close at 5 p.m. on Nov. 26 and will reopen at noon on Dec. 1. 

Sindecuse Health Center, including the pharmacy, will be closed Nov. 27-28 and will resume regular hours Monday through Friday starting on Dec. 1. Medical emergencies should be referred to local hospitals or other health care providers. 

Student Center Dining and Valley Dining Center will be closed starting at 2 p.m. on Nov. 26 through Nov. 30. They will reopen at 7 a.m. on Dec. 1. 

The Student Recreation Center building will be closed starting at 2 p.m. on Nov. 26 (the main office will stay open until 4 p.m.) through Nov. 30. The pool and sauna and the climbing wall will be closed Nov. 26-30. 

Unified Clinics will close Nov. 27-28 and will reopen for regular hours beginning at 8 a.m. on Dec. 1. 

Waldo Library will close at 5 p.m. on Nov. 26 and will reopen at noon on Nov. 30. For more information on hours, call (269) 387-5155 or visit the University Libraries’ hours webpage. 

WMU Student Center will close Nov. 26 at 5:30 p.m. and reopen from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Nov. 30. FedEx, PNC Bank, Buster’s Bookstore, the Admissions Welcome Center and eateries in the student center will be closed Nov. 27-30. Game On! closes at 4 p.m. on Nov. 26 and reopens from 3 to 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 30.

Energy savings

To reduce energy costs during the recess, heating and cooling systems in all office and classroom buildings controlled by the WMU building energy management system will be in holiday mode, unless a space is exempt from the program. The temperature in spaces will not go outside of the range of 60 to 85 degrees. Portions of a particular building that do not regularly go into night setback mode will not go into holiday mode. 

Employees are reminded to shut off and unplug all nonessential electronics before the long weekend.
