Electives

MSW students may take any graduate level (6000 level and above) course reasonably relevant to their degree as an elective. These courses need to be approved by the students' advisor, but do not have to be in the social work department. Students seeking specializations should use their elective hours towards these specialized courses. Specialization declaration survey needs to be completed in order to take many of these courses.

transfer credits

Transferred graduate credits must first be approved by the Graduate College, as per their Transfer Credit Policy. Once approved by the Graduate College,  the student can simply have their advisor approve the use of these credits as electives, or they may petition the School of Social Work Curriculum committee to have transferred courses substitute a required course. The School of Social Work transfer credit policy can be found in the Graduate Student Handbook.
