Assessment of Student Learning
The School of Social Work has maintained a continuous assessment plan initially developed around the standards contained in the 2001 Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS) statement. Since then the school implemented a quantitative assessment strategy to evaluate the competencies specified in the 2008 EPAS, and then updated for the 2015 EPAS, by revising its evaluation plan for continuous quality improvement using a dual-measure approach that collects data on each practice behavior identified for each competency. The school has adopted 80 percent as the benchmark for mastery of each competency; that is, at least 80 percent of students should achieve a score of 80 percent or above on each competency.
Findings from assessment have been maintained institutionally to demonstrate not only that the school is engaged in its own assessment activities, but that those efforts comply with the expectations of the University’s regional accrediting body, the Commission on Colleges of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
