January 30, 2023: Research Compliance

Join us to learn about the WMU IRB process and our new web-based system called Cayuse IRB. Cayuse IRB is a user-friendly interface that manages protocol creation, review, submission, files and simplifies the human subjects research submission process. Julia Mays, Associate Director Research Compliance, will lead this workshop and answer all your IRB questions.

February 20, 2023: Export Control

Export Controls applies to all personnel (employees, faculty, students, research staff, contractors, visitors, and collaborators) engaged in research, projects, activities, compensating foreign persons or international travel conducted under the auspices of Western Michigan University whether the activities are conducted on or off campus. Join us to learn about the Export Controls Policies and Procedures that ensure WMU's compliance with Federal Rules and Regulations. Led by Jim Center, Export Control Officer.

September 19, 2022: Getting Started: Funding to Support Research and Creative Scholarship
Finding financial support for your research or creative scholarship project means preparing for the landscape that helps nurture this work in higher education. Join us to get an overview of how to access WMU's support and uncover external resources in many diverse fields. Bring your questions and your research interests to the conversation! Dr. Lofty Durham, Associate Professor of Theatre and Faculty Fellow in ORI, will lead this workshop.
October 24, 2022: Meet TIP-Technology, Innovation and Partnerships
TIP brings together teams of researchers, practitioners and users to shape research directions, catalyze iterative co-design and co-creation, develop game-changing technologies and solutions to address the nation's societal and economic challenges, and grow the future workforce. TIP's impact is embodied in its dynamic programs, including TIP's Convergence Accelerator and new programs to be announced in the coming months. Dr. Mark Hurwitz, Professor of Political Science, Faculty Fellow in ORI, and former NSF Program Officer in the Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure and the Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences Directorate, will lead this workshop.

November 7, 2022: Open Access Publishing
Open access is a movement advocating for research to be unrestricted and freely available to all. In this workshop we will present an overview of open access as well as discuss options for openly sharing research, data, and educational resources. We’ll also discuss the specifics of open access publishing and what the advantages and disadvantages are of choosing to publish research as open access. We’ll help you to distinguishing between true open access and “predatory” publishers. Michele Behr, Scholarly Communications and Open Educational Resources Librarian, will lead this workshop.
