March 24, 2020 Status Letter

Dear Colleagues, 

As you are well aware Governor Whitmer issued a stay at home executive order. President Montgomery has shared both the University’s commitment to the health and safety of our community as well as examples of essential work that can continue on campus. We understand that for some research and academic functions it will remain necessary for faculty and perhaps some graduate students to have access to certain buildings and especially laboratories and animal facilities.

In anticipation of the likelihood that building access may need to be further curtailed in the future we are asking that if you require access to a WMU building you submit the attached form requesting access. The attached file contains further instructions and examples of essential services that require physical access to campus as well as the required access approval form. If you require physical access to a campus facility between now and April 25, please fill out the form and send it for approval through your supervisor who will route to your Dean for final collection by the Vice President for Research and Innovation (for research requests) and the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs (for academic requests). This will allow us to assure access for truly essential requirements collaboratively with our colleagues in Public Safety as well as assuring we thoughtfully protect activities critical to our mission while limiting campus access and protecting the health and safety of our community.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. We would like to have these forms by the end of the day Wednesday, March 25. If an unanticipated need for access arises after this date, we will continue to review as quickly as possible.

UPDATE May 8, 2020.  If you need emergency one time access, please reach out to your supervisor. They will work through your Dean or Vice President to arrange access. The form is NOT required.
