Student/faculty presentation explores women’s leadership in social work

On Feb. 9, 2015, social work master’s student Courtney Dunsmore joined School of Social Work faculty members Dr. Barbara Barton and Dr. Dee Sherwood in presenting their co-authored paper "Falling Silent: Analyzing the Voices of Women Leaders in the Social Work Profession" at the 27th Annual Ethnographic and Qualitative Research Conference in Las Vegas. The paper qualitatively explores how ten women experienced supports and barriers in their development as leaders within non-profit organizations, higher education or governmental agencies.
Dunsmore is looking forward to continuing this collaborative research and will be included as a co-author on subsequent publications. “I appreciate the opportunity to work with faculty on research, she states, “and I am very grateful to have received travel fund assistance from the School of Social Work. It was my first time attending an international conference, and it really opened my eyes to the world of research.”
